AFOs and the invitation to someones home for the first time

So I have been invited to a house warming party this afternoon. I

don't know ther people, except for one of the friends who invited me.

Here's my dilema...

I worry about arriving at the door and finding everyones shoes. In the past I

have always asked the host if I could keep my shoes on because I wear leg braces

(I don't mention AFOs or anything technical). I usually receive the look of

distaste and then a final plee of " Oh, please keep them on " with the tone of

voice that's more of " please keep them on because I don't what you to fall and

make a fool out me in front of my friends " . I never once have been asked to

return to these homes.

So here I go...to another new home. I don't want it to end in failure

like 100% of the past times. I would just like people to get to know

me without the AFOs.

Do any of you ever have this issue? What do you do?
