Guest guest
Andy and all other listmates, I try to get plasma amino acids (fasting) on my autistic children, if possible. The only thing that usually prevents this is cost. I have found that many autistic kids feel and act a lot better when they are given a tailored formula based on their fasting plasma amino acid results. I have found about 80% with autism to be low in several essential amino acids, and these children usually respond very well to tailored supplementation. The reasons for the deficiencies are becoming pretty obvious, and mercury seems to be the culprit - low stomach HCl, impaired protein digestion, etc. I can see no reason why these children should be denied this very helpful treatment. And, it helps them get through the removal of mercury more easily because they are feeling and functioning better. On the other hand, it is never a good idea (IMHO) to just treat the symptoms rather than going for the cause, so I try to get on with chelation ASAP, and often add the tailored amino acids in after a few cycles. Just my observations. Amy ------------------ Reply Separator -------------------- Originally From: AndyCutler@... Apparently at least some of those MD's who are so convincingly telling you what to do don't actually know. It is up to you to get educated and decide who to believe. Guest guest
Andy, MMP phone number - 1-800-772-7873. They are in Oregon. From what I understand, this is about all they do. They are able to order the amino acids in gigantic bulk, and therefore are able to charge a lot less than anyone else. Guest guest
Here's what they sent back in a 6 page report nutshell: Essential Amino Acids- low in threonine, valine, phenylalanine, and tryptophan. Protein Amino Acids- low in arginine, serine, glutamine, and cystine. Protein Amino Acids- high in aspartic acid, glutamic acid, and very, very high in glycine. Metabolic Amino Acids- High in phosphoserine, b-aminobutyric acid, hydroxylysine, ethanolamine, 1-methylhistidine, anserine. Metabolic Amino Acids- low in alpha aminobutyric acid. The testing was done by Dr. Vogelaar at European Laboratory of Nutrients in Utrecht, Netherlands. We are still waiting on the results of a comprehensive stool panel, 3 heavy metals tests, vitamin profiles, etc. In May the first round of his testing showed problems with bacteria overgrowth and we've been treating that with Culturelle. He has problems with all essential fatty acids, some high, most all are very low. He has been GFCF for over a year, Feingold for 5 months. He is allergic to corn, soy, pork, egg, peanuts, orange, basil, all wheat and barley, all dairy, all fish, and he reacts highly to phenols. He takes a Zyme Prime with each meal (15 minutes prior with the capsule loosened, like Devin suggested). They (He and his twin sister) also have 1 pep with whatever is the biggest meal of the day. We're having some really good days, some really yucky ones too though. But the enzymes are helping. His what he gets on his pureed rotation diet...Lima beans, great northern beans, pinto beans, brown lentils, potatoes, green beans, brown rice, spinach, turkey, lamb, chicken, and parsnips. I buy everything organic, nitrate free, etc. He gets no infractions and doesn't even set foot in a restaurant. More info than you wanted probably! - here's some suggestions the lab had... get him to each small meals of high proteins, and chew his food more. It's pureed already and mostly all protein. UUGGHH! They also had suggestions about his vitamins, etc. I'm going out today to look for what I can buy at a health food store as far as aminos and glutathione. I'm throwing the trying 1 thing every 3 months attitude out the window for the moment and reducing it to a new thing every 7 days because I'm getting desperate. I made am appointment at the Texas Children's Hospital with a GI doc. I'm taking my chances with him, I know, but our pediatrician is of no help, and this is over our DAN! Dr's head. Our appointment with Dr. Holmes isn't until November and that's too long. You're supplement has a couple of things he's already high in. Who's it made buy? Guest guest
My older son also tested very deficient in amino acids. Have you seen any improvement in your son when taking the amino acid supplements that you mentioned? I haven't had my younger son tested so I don't know what his status is. Are there any negatives about this stuff? Thanks. ( & Malachi's mom)
Guest guest
Elly, I'd also love to see the " pink sheet " . Have a friend with ADD who is not likely to be able to read the whole book.
