Guest guest
I went to a parent meeting this week at the school where my MDS son Ben(16 mos) attends. It is a special school for kids with all kinds of special needs. I talked with a mom that has twin DS girls and was asking her thoughts on supplements. I will pass these along to you. I had heard that talking about supplements was risky because people tend to get heated about it (Kind of like religion I guess, everybody thinks they are right and as soon as people can be comfortable with themselves while accepting others' decisions maybe this issue won't be so heated). First I want to say thank you everyone for being tolerant and open minded. From what this mom told me, her DS LISTSERV gets down right nasty and hateful and that is not was is going to help our children. Support and free exchange of information is! This is such an awesome group of people! She told me that there is another supplement out there called Nutrichem and that is what she uses. She said that she felt that is research based. Here is an article from the www.nutrichem.com site: Biomarkers of Oxidative Stress are significantly eleveated in Down syndrome, oxidative stress, down syndrome, 8-hydroxy-2-de Also she said that there is a pediatrician by the name of Dr. Len Leslin, MD. His daughter was born with DS and he and come up with guidelines that he feels are necessary to monitor DS kids. I found this site particularly useful with a variety of concerns for potty training to piracetam. Down Syndrome: Health Issues Wow, I still have lots of research to do. Let me know what your finds are. Thanks. Carol Mom to Ben and 4 sibs.
