Guest guest
Today I was dressing Hady cotton pants, and he wanted to sleep in his short jeans (too cold for that at night here), and he objected, then started beating me on the head when I told him he has to wear it. Then he tried to bite me and all he caught was my hair so he got up with a tuft between his teeth! (no need to mention how painful it was). We don't need pictures or signs to teach him how to object , he simply screams "Pants" "No honey, it's cold" and repeats all the stuff I tell him when I force him to wear the long pants. Another beating case, I just approach him and I know he loves me and likes it when I hug him, when my face becomes in his hand's reach he slaps me. Or whenever we're playing and crawling on the beds he may turn at any moment and beat my face, and only gets more determined to point at my face when I fix his arms. Sometimes there is no pattern appliable, nor an obvious reason before beating. I remind you, Hady is 4, verbal, but doesn't speak fluently. When he beats, sometimes he says "Don't beat Mommy", and seems like he doesn't always control it or can stop it. Guest guest
Hi Noura, To avoid the night time battle, I would put long pants on him after he falls asleep. As for hitting, I would remind him to have 'nice hands'. When he's NOT acting up, I would have him practice 'nice hands', by gently petting an animal/ or household pet. Talk about how the animal likes being petted by him. You can also apply this to having him brush your hair, or one of his siblings hair. Improvise and think of things that will require him to be gentle with his hands. Reward him by talking about what a good job he's doing with his 'nice hands'. You will need to be consistant in practicing 'nice hands' to make it work.
