Guest guest
I am thinking about starting my daughter in an aqautic therapy program. There was a nice size article on aquatics in the last CMTA magazine so I assume it would be good for her. Everyone else agree?
Guest guest
Swimming is amazing for CMT kids. I always felt equal in the water and wow was I fast underwater.
Guest guest
For some kids, if you manage to deal with the chemical imbalances that can occur with the exposures to chlorine as well as parasites and bacteria in public pools, it can be a very good way to build up muscle tone, and help with numerous physical, cognitive, behavioral and emotional issues. We built a pool just for that benefit, we don't regret one penny of what we spent. It was well worth it. Aquatic therapy Hello everybody, Did anybody pursue Aquatic therapy with their child on spectrum? If so, could you please share your experience with us. Thanks Krishna

Guest guest
You know it's funny, but I use to get so frustrated with the Autism specialists and therapists, because they made play sound soooo easy, and they'd act as if I didn't pay attention to my kid. My problem is that a child who spins, and lines up toys and has no interest in paying any attention to anyone whatsoever, is very hard to play with, hence, our issues. However, with the pool, that was one area he wanted to have my help, because he couldn't swim. However, once in the pool, he wanted me to let go, in the deep end, so he'd struggle, and I'd hold him, he'd wiggle away, and struggle, and I'd hold him. We had a swim instructor show him the basic strokes, just pushing the water away while standing on the steps of the pool, me manually guiding his hands and forcing him to go through the motions. After a very frustrating and long 6 weeks (eventually had to do these lessons privately because it was too distracting to the other children) he got it. He doggy paddled his way into happy oblivion and the improvements that I mentioned earlier came quickly. Which of course made the painful 6 weeks of lessons most definitely worth it. So worth it that we wanted those benefits on a daily basis. There were numerous supplements and other things, like speech, occupational therapy and ABA therapy going on at the same time, but none of those things built up his muscle tone or leveled his moods quite the way the pool did, I think a lot of it had to do with just getting him out in the sun, which outside of the pool, was not his most favorite place to be for several years.
