How much water?

Hello All!

How much water do people find themselves drinking?

I remember reading I think in Weston Price's letter to his grandchildren

(it's on www.price-pottenger.com) his recommendation to drink milk rather

than water with meals, so as not to water down the digestive juices

perhaps. In light of that, I find myself drinking less water than I used

to, perhaps less than I should...

Do folks on this list believe that people should drink water even if they

don't feel thirsty (ala " The Body's Many Cries for Water " )?

Thanks!

as you know you'll get a million different answers on this one

depending on where you go. A good rule of thumb is 1/2 your body

weight in LIQUIDS for the day. So if you're 130 pounds your liquids

would at least be 75 ounces. Again this is not etched in stone it is

simply a rule of thumb. Plain water to drink is over rated. It is

not nutrient dense in any way. That doesn't mean don't drink it,

however in your 75 oz I would include other liquids whether it be

milk, veggie juice, broths, etc... and supplement the rest with good

clean water. More often than not drinking is off limits +/- 1-2

hours on either side of a meal.

I hope this helps.

Hi ,

I found that when people were on an all or nearly all raw diet not much

water was needed. I also found that as the percentage of cooked foods

increased the more water that was needed. It would seem that the more

water available in foods the less one needed to drink it. I was amazed in

my undergraduate college days when I went on a raw milk and fruit diet

how little water I needed even though I was strenuously working out about

two hours a day! My urine was always clear and I never experienced any

symptoms of dehydration. I was drinking about a gallon of goat milk a day

mixed with lots of fruit.

I think Dr. Price is absolutely correct about not drinking water at

meals. Dr. Batmanghelidj, the author of, Your Body's Many Cries For

Water, also says the same thing. His book is a great primer on the power

and behavior of water in our system despite its apparent lack of

nutrients. Most of us are aware of all the talk about the life sustaining

abilities of water, Dr. B makes a strong case for the life giving

abilities of water, and his clinical results seem quite impressive. It is

a very educational and insightful book.

So if you are eating a raw or nearly raw diet then most of the water you

need will be obtained from your food. If you are eating a more standard

raw/cooked combo then Dr. Batman's advice on drinking water, which he

details in his book, is well worth taking, in fact probably imperative,

IMHO. I know of three people suffering from severe asthma to whom I

recommended his book and the results were amazing. They weren't

interested in any dietary changes so I just tried to meet them where they

were, and the water approach didn't seem to radical or inconvenient to

them. His website can be found at www.watercure.com. An enlightening

interview with him can be found at

http://www.watercure2.com/sam_biser.htm.

Just my two cents...
