Mac's comments about vitamins rang true with me. Many years ago...mid-70's...I

spent a summer in Mexico. A friend and I crossed the border and headed south to

where no one spoke much English...we were looking for " authentic, " if you will.

We spent two months there...have a wonderful time...but I came back with an

unwanted souvenir: Hepatitis A. That's the kind you get because someone forgot

to wash their hands or the shellfish were contaminated or...well, there are a

lot of causes. And, at that point, there wasn't any shot you could take to

prevent it or to relieve it. I spent the better part of six months recovering

from the illness.

I missed that semester at college, but recovered very quickly. My Dad was a

seventies " health food nut " who prescribed exactly what I should eat/take, etc.

My doctor told me that I recovered six months " early " and he had no idea why.

He thought it might have something to do with my youth (in those days), but I

suspect it had a lot to do with the natural foods and vitamins my Dad

" prescribed " for me. I try to stay true to his ideas (many of them came from

Rodale's magazines, but also from long talks with local " health food store "

owners).

He passed away about five years ago and I so often wish he were here to give me

advice. Those of you who, like me, have lost someone close to you, may take

comfort in knowing that I so very often dream of my Kjersten talking with my Dad

(they were SO very compatible) as well as so many members of my family....

Take care,

Dennis

Vitamins help also

I know that most people with liver problems also can have problems

getting enough vitamins. And, most take supplements to make up for

them. Well, I ran across this website that I thought would be

useful. It explains the function of the vitamin and then list the

natural way to get it through diet. What I liked about the website was

that it broke it down by fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins. This

is important for people with liver disease. Water-soluble vitamins

are easily processed by the liver. What I liked also, is it tells you

how to get them naturally through food.

As Abijann posted earlier, cells are important in liver health and

vitamins help protect and keep their strength. Please keep in mind, if

you do take supplements you should talk with your doctor first about

how much you should have on a daily basis. Some supplements contain

" megadoses " which can be toxic to the liver.

I hope this was useful,

MaC

Hmmm, perhaps it's our time of life, Dennis? I have recently been thinking

about people I've lost (especially my parents and my first husband) and I

confuse in my mind who knew whom, and imagine them meeting. (No, I'm not

delusional about this -- just when I'm not thinking logically this happens.)

Recently had several very bad days. At one point he said that he, Bill

(my first husband) and Vivaldi (my beloved cat whom we recently lost) would

be " waiting for me " when I got to heaven. You can imagine the effect that

had on me.

The last week has been pretty good. But is SO thin, I continue to

worry.

Hugs to all.

Dorothy
