Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone had advice for me regarding my grandson's situation. He is 6yo and in a regular education 1st grade classroom. He is HFA and usually does well academically but he does have some problems with attention and behavior. He has sensory deficits in all areas. This is the 1st yr he has had a one on one aide and at 1st we were really excited about it. However the aide he has was a displaced employee from elsewhere in the district. She has no experience with children on the spectrum. She did not get a choice in regards to the postion nor did the school get a choice in regards to her. The staff at his school were not happy about the choice at all. They did not feel she was a good match for the postion. But they were not given a choice. She is not working out well at all and is actually causing him more frustration than anything else. She is difficult to comunicate with (even for the teacher) She just doesn't seem to get it...We have spoken to the principal and he is looking into it to see what is options are and we have an IEP mtg today to discuss the situation. But she is a union employee and so I'm sure that complicates things for everyone. It's just so frustrating to finally get an aide and then get stuck in this situation. Any advice would be appreciated, Barb
