my first taste of raw milk

JJ, I happened to be in Walnut Creek this past Sunday and went to Whole

Foods and there were about 8 quarts of Claravale raw milk in their cooler:

my first!!! As I was loading five of them into my cart, a woman saw me and

she thought it must be good if I wanted so many, so she took one, too!

She'd never heard of raw milk, didn't know what the difference was. So

maybe we have another convert. (I hope I didn't deplete a supply that

someone else was counting on!! Let me know. I wonder how WF decides to

stock their milk?)

I came home, searched the archives of this list (I was a founding member and

keep most of the info in my own files) and read NT again, and decided that

the best use of the milk was to drink it. Delicious, thirst quenching, and

satisfying! My son and I drank most of it. I was so glad to be able to

feed my teenager something truly beneficial. We don't get to Walnut Creek

regularly but will go as often as possible.

I'm new to this list! I am in Portland Oregon. Does anyone know where I may

obtain raw milk?? I noticed New Season's will carry the raw goat milk but not

the raw cow's milk

thanks

Hi Jenna,

Echo Mountain Raw Goat Milk is available at Food Front Co-op and All

Nature's stores as well. Raw Cow milk is illegal to sell

commercially in Oregon. You will have to seek out individual farms

that are able to sell raw cow milk directly at the farm for " pet

food. " I believe they are allowed to sell only so many gallons per

month this way. It is also illegal to engage in transport of raw milk

products (other than cheese) across state lines.

You know, my wife could only get 1 quart :( I spoke with the dairy

guy at WFs and they say they stock it regularly. Unlike the WFs in

San Ramon (which I am closer to) They refuse to stock it and will

not order it! I don't know what's up with that but I think I might

write a letter and complain. If they get more demand for it they

might just start stocking it.

While it varies from farm to farm, goat milk can be pretty tasty. After a

week or so it does tend to get pretty strong.

Our next Portland meeting is March 2nd at 9:30 am. We meet at the Northwest

Naturopathic College located at 49 Porter Street/Avenue. It's located near

the intersection of Barbur Blvd and the west end of the Ross Island bridge.

Would you like me to add you to our e-mail list? Hope to see you there.
