Guest guest
I'll add to the duck/garden comment with the personal experience that when we had ducks for a couple years, they more or less " mowed " the garden to the dirt if they weren't kept out of it. I'm pretty sure we had mallards, and they weren't particularly friendly. I don't blame them though, a farm with loose dogs, loose semi-feral cats, plodding cattle, and obnoxiously curious children (including me at the time) is not a very secure place for a duck. I discovered that a mallard sitting on her nest both knows how and is very willing to bite...not that a duck-bite is anything to be particularly afraid of, but the panic-induced slow-motion sight of the duck's bill zeroing in on your face can seem remarkably dangerous when you're about 4 years old and crawling into a narrow nesting space underneath an old Chevy... ;-)
