For diapers, I use Bi-O-Kleen detergent powder (from

the natural foods store). For other laundry I use

Fresh Breeze (from Trader Joe's), it's soap-based, not

detergent, but still " natural " and quite a bit cheaper

than Bi-O-Kleen. I don't like to use soap on diapers

regularly because I think it tends to coat the fibers,

since soap is fat-based, which affects the absorbency

(never had any trouble washing regular clothes in it).

The diapers always seem to smell more clean after

washing with Bi-O-Kleen than the Fresh Breeze. Could

just be my imagination, but I tested it several times.

As for Fuzzi Bunz, they say to only use a detergent

because soap will coat the fibers and make them not

work like they're supposed to (i.e. not let liquid

through the first layer to be absorbed by the cotton

diaper inside).

Well, thanks again to everyone who responded re: cloth diapers. I am convinced

we should do it, and my husband is willing to try it (ever the skeptic - he now

eats raw meat, whines when there's no sauerkraut that I secretly don't want to

populate his intestines with good organisms, and complains " I can't eat that -

it has too many carbs and I'll feel crummy in the morning. " He's come a long

way from " you want me to eat THAT? Are you sure it won't kill me? " so I'm

pretty sure he'll be o.k. with the switch to cloth, with a little grumbling for

good measure).

Has anyone tried all three (or at least two) of these AIOs (see, I'm getting the

lingo down): Mother-ease, Re-uz'm and/or Fuzzi Bunz? If so, how do they compare

on bulkiness, leak-proofness (I know proofness is not a word, but you get the

idea) and ease of use.

thanks

Dana
