Guest guest
Fw: Important info. about house fires Received from a friend who is in the property insurance business. It is well worth reading. This is one of those e-mails that if you didn't send it, rest assured someone on your list will suffer for not reading it. The original message was written by a lady whose brother and his wife learned a hard lesson this past week. Their house burned down.. ..nothing left but ashes. They have good insurance so the house will be replaced and most of the contents. That is the good news. However, they were sick when they found out the cause of the fire. The insurance investigator sifted through the ashes for several hours. He had the cause of the fire traced to the master bathroom. He asked her sister-in-law what she had plugged in the bathroom She listed the normal things....curling iron, blow dryer He kept saying to her, " No, this would be something that would disintegrate at high temperatures " . Then her sister-in-law remembered she had a Glade Plug-In, in the bathroom. The investigator had one of those " Aha " moments. He said that was the cause of the fire. He said he has seen more house fires started with the plug-in type room fresheners than anything else. He said the plastic they are made from is THIN plastic. He also said that in every case there was nothing left to prove that it even existed. When the investigator looked in the wall plug, the two prongs left from the plug-in were still in there. Her sister-in-law had one of the plug-ins that had a small night light built in it. She said she had noticed that the light would dim and then finally go out. She would walk in to the bathroom a few hours later, and the light would be back on again. The investigator said that the unit was getting too hot, and would dim and go out rather than just blow the light bulb. Once it cooled down it would come back on. That is a warning sign . The investigator said he personally wouldn't have any type of plug in fragrance device anywhere in his house. He has seen too many places that have been burned down due to them. PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK. NOT ONLY COULD IT SAVE SOMEONE'S HOUSE, BUT IT COULD SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE

Guest guest
Jeanne-- According to Snopes Urban Legend web site, this is not true. If you want to read more, you can find information here: http://www.snopes com/inboxer/household/glade.asp . Guest guest
Jeanne-- I've used Snopes for years to check out things like this--I've fallen for a number of them myself, as recently as a few weeks ago. I forwarded something to a bunch of people, including my husband, because it sounded so legit. He asked if I'd checked, and I felt so stupid when I found out it was a hoax. And I'd much rather get tons of hoaxes to check out, than not get a legitimate warning. Thanks for being so thoughtful and caring. Guest guest
This may be a urban legen, but it really happen to use. I don't know if it was just a thing that happen to happen after I put the glad plug in your bedroom, and it would have happen with any thing. But I did have a night light plug in forever in the same outlet and nothing happen. Anyway, I plugged in a glad plug in our out let in our bedroom that morning and late that night I was a sleep up stairs in our other room. My husband was working late in garage and I had the bedroom door closed to the upstairs, so I didn't smell any smoke yet. My hubby came in from the garage and the house was full of smoke and that outlet was on fire. Stupid us we didn't have smoke alarms then, now I have one in every room. I'm really weird about leaving anything plugged in our outlets now. The fire man told us the same thing about the air fresheners in outlets. Guest guest
Jeanne, Trust me I've done the same thing. Specially when you get those emails about women in danger or some thing. I fell for the lagan of the lady in the parking lot at the mall one. This man goes up to a women walking to her car in the parking lot and asks for a ride because he is parked on the other side of the mall and came out the wrong door, well then the women gets away and later they look in his bag and there is stuff like a knife, and rope. That stuff I always fall for, but I figure it makes you safer even reading the lagan, even if it's not true. Hugs, Sonya
Guest guest
Thank you Marge: I am so new to the computer I'd never even heard of urban legends or Snopes...I am learning so much from so many wonderful people who are willing to help me....I think the biggest lesson I've learned yet is just how much more there is for me to learn....I truly think I feel like you however, that I'd rather have something brought to my attention and later learn it is not so....than to have someone know something that could benefit others and not share it....Thank you so much for your kind response....Jeanne RE: FW: Warning Jeanne-- Thanks for being so thoughtful and Marg -------Original Message-------

Guest guest
Your heart surely was -- and still is -- in the right place. And may I add some applause for coming back and posting this " oops " message?! If more people would do that, these hoaxes would die out *much* faster! -- > > ...I just learned this is an urban ledged.....I am truly embarrassed and > I > am also so sorry if I alarmed anyone..It was sent to me by a dear > friend.....My heart was in the right place thinking of warning > everyone...but my naivete now tells me that anything this important ant > would have made the news...please forgive me.....Jeanne > > >
