There are laws in place to punish >careless drivers. Are there any to punish careless gun owners? Yes. If I point a gun at someone without due cause, I'm legally liable. If I discharge a round without due cause, I'm legally liable. If I leave a gun where a child can access it, I'm legally liable. It's really no different than a car in that aspect.
