Guest guest
Hi Simmel, Jim's kids came all on different days during the Christmas Holiday and each one stayed about 20 minutes after not seeing Jim for about a year (Two had been here on Father's Day also) and each one brought a box of Sees Candy. They couldn't even be creative and get him something useful or make him something special like a card that came from the heart. One of them followed me into the bedroom to get Jim up to visit, he saw me struggling to help Jim up into a sitting position and instead of helping me, backs away and said he would be outside and to call him when Dad is ready. I was so shook about it, I couldn't even think fast enough to tell him to get his ass back here and help with his dad. He was gone before I could speak. Oh well, they are hopeless! I can't waste my time on them. I hope you had wonderful holidays with your family. My oldest daughter, Michele, had my parents, sister, my other daughter and their dad over for Christmas Eve. We celebrate Christmas Eve. She really did a great job. The dinner was delicious and her home was beautifully decorated. Christmas Day is also Michele's birthday and we celebrated her birthday too. She turned 33. Jim stayed home with a caregiver, I gave him the choice and he did not want to go. He was more comfortable at home and it is just as well, he would not have lasted a minute and would want to go home if I had brought him. He and I celebrated Christmas Day together. I brought home the gifts for him from everyone and he opened theirs and mine to him and I made him a special breakfast. Thank you also for telling me about Robitussin Pearls. I have not seen those and will look for them. Guest guest
Hi Jan, I am in Silver Spring, land. Close to the Metro by which means you could get to DC. Would be happy to have you stay here if you do not mind large dog and bird. Please let me know when the meetings are being held as well as where. I could attend some if that is allowed. Guest guest
Oh dear Simmel! What a shame about all your hard work making individual lemon bundt cakes only to have Toz enjoy them. It is rather funny, but I'll bet it wasn't at the time. It sounds like in the end you had a wonderful time. What a wonderful son and wife to remake the bundt cakes for you. What a great and fun gift from your college roommate too. I'll bet you never had a clue why you had saved that bottle of wine for so long, it was perfect on your special day and was meant for that occasion! I sent you a birthday greeting, but you may not have seen it since you were so busy. What classes are you taking in February? I am counting the days until I arrive in DC. I registered for tours for my friend and I to go on. I was hoping to tour the White House, but you need to register 3 months in advance, so they have time to check background information. But we did get booked for the Supreme Court Tour on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 2PM and a Tour of the Library of Congress at 2PM on Friday, Feb. 24 I think we can tour the Capital in the public tours, but the lines may be very long. There is so much to see, I am already overwhelmed. I have a long list of places to see and so little time. I would like to see the sonian too. I know that is huge and takes days to see. My friend that I am traveling with wants to look for her father's name there. He was an electrical engineer and made many inventions and she remembers something about her parents mentioning that he was in the sonian for some inventions. Both her parents are deceased and can not confirm that his name is there, so we are going on a search for it. I'm glad that your birthday was such a success! Guest guest
Jan, Yes, there is a tremendous amount to see. My son took me on an evening tour of the Roosevelt monument and it was the most impressive of all the monuments. See if you can find an evening tour of the monuments. I believe there is one. The library of Congress was one of the best that I can recall. My sister in law works at the sonian so I can ask her what would be the best things there to aim to see when one has limited time. There are all the art galleries as well. I do not know what your interests are so I can also mention the Holocaust museum.....very depressing so you may not wish to do that. If you do I have tickets for the special exhibits. Many years ago we had a private tour of the White House when a dear friend was assistant physician to the white house in the Kennedy years. It is a shame that the world has become a place where one needs a background check before seeing it now. Guest guest
Simmel, That would be great if your SIL could give us a general idea of things to see to cut our tour time down at the sonian, but allows us to see some of the highlights. I am going to see what bus tours they have, so I will check out the monument tours. I have been told by many to see the Holocaust Museum, so that is at the top of the list. Also, we would like to see Arlington Cemetary and if there is anytime left to tour, the National Cathedral in town. Jan --- Simmel Haim wrote: > Jan, > > Yes, there is a tremendous amount to see.
