Guest guest
Some low carb diet promoters say that carbohydrates are not essential for human health or life. What evidence is there for that? Carbohydrates come with protein and fat. Sort of built-in. In other words, there's no whole food that doesn't contain carbohydrates. So can it be proved that they are not needed? I've read on another group that carbs are needed to burn fat (or maybe to burn it efficiently?) Can anyone provide scientific evidence that carbs are essential or nonessential? Thanks Roman __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Roman, Your first impulse to think hey aren't carbs present in many protein dominant foods is correct. Even the Masai who are some of history's greatest lo carb dudes ate some carbs. Unfortunately many lo/no carb folks erroneously and carelessly categorize all carbs in the same group. They may not even actually think that all carbs are created equal however their language is careless enough to convey that. Careless enough that someone could be convinced that a carb is a carb is a carb. As if we could confuse wonder bread and kale or krispy kreme and raw milk. Carbs actually are not the point. If you look at Dr. Melvin Page's work or even much of Dr. Prices findings or Schwarzbein's work and the concepts of many others in the lo/no carb camp, the issue is not about carbs its about eat only whole traditional foods. When you do this you suddenly discover that shazam!!! you are eating, lo/no carb depending on which whole food traditions your following. Some of the greatest lo carbers ever were the Masai, if you follow their lead you'll be eating real well, you'll be real well and real lo carb. If you follow the lead of the Gaelic fishers or mountain swiss where they ate more grains and more vegetables too than the Masai they ate more carbs however it was still pretty low carb. The keys to their health and durability was clearly the same, eating whole traditional foods properly prepared. So yes carbs are essential, however they don't need to be eliminated or eaten in excess. If you simply eat primarily properly prepared grains and fruits as your " carb dominant " foods you should still be eating so many veggies, butter, coconut oil, meat, dairy, eggs, etc... comparatively that you would still qualify as lo carb, even without trying to control your carb consumtion. So its not that carbs are evil its that most of what our culture eats is evil and they like evil type carbs especially. I hope this was of some help.
