Guest guest
I've wondered about this also. I've been using 20 Mule Team Borax(along with dye free detergent) because I remember my grandmother using it. The box says it's ok to wash fine china in, so I've been using it in my dishwasher. I also like it as a bathroom cleanser. I don't know of anything negative about it but I haven't searched high and low, either. Guest guest
, That's why I started using it. I tried several things and this has been the best option. I use the NT suggestions(just fill the first cycle cup only half full) and use apple cider vinegar in the jet dry receptacle and haven't has any problems so far. I do rinse the dishes clean of any food particles, though. Ann in Memphis
Guest guest
My husband is the official stain-getter-outer in the family, and he loves Oxyclean. He actually is happy when someone gets a bad stain, throws it into the " stain pile " and then once a week he soaks the stained clothes in a bucket with oxyclean overnight, and, voila, stain is (almost always) out. For laundry detergent, we use grandmothers, or the natural stuff from trader joes. We also use All Free, because my husband likes it and it's cheap at Costco, but I haven't done the research on its toxicity - I suspect we'll be switching to all natural soon. ----- Original Message ----- From: Food From Afar Sent: Friday, February 01, 2002 5:16 PM Subject: OT: Laundry soap/detergent again Hello, all, I totally missed the discussion on natural detergent/soaps. I sheepishly admit that we use Tide with Bleach because it gets our clothes the cleanest of comventional laundry products. I am ready to move to a natural product but have no idea where to start. Is there a " Natural Consumer Reports " somewhere? I need a product that gets my family's clothes **clean.** I've tried Seventh Generation Ultra liquid and it just doesn't get the grimy dirt out - like a " hot wing " stain that was pre-treated with stain stick or the dirty grime from my husband's outdoor clothes. So, if anyone has any ideas - especially for a natural pre-treat like Totally Toddler or the aforementioned stain stick or shout, please let me know. If this is deemed redundant or inappropriate for this list, please e-mail me privately. Thanks! ine
Guest guest
I like oxyclean, but also use Simple Green for my husbands real greasy work stuff. I then make the Fels Naptha detergent which is not a stain fighter like Tide but works as a general rule. I do spot treat all stains. Guest guest
Ann- You use Borax in your dishwasher? It works well? I've just been using Cascade, but I read, I think in NT, that dishwasher detergent is extremely toxic, so I'm not too happy about it. >I've been using 20 Mule Team Borax(along >with dye free detergent) because I remember my grandmother using it. I like Bi-O-Kleen and Fresh Breeze, as I said in the diaper discussion. I think our clothes get clean, although I purposely avoid white clothing because we have a lifestyle that just doesn't allow them to stay white (we have lots of animals, spend a lot of time outside, my husband's work gets his clothes grimy). I do not use any chlorine in my house, even in the laundry, because I think it's nasty stuff. I haven't tried Oxyclean, but have heard it works as well as chlorine bleach in whitening, so maybe give one of the brands I mentioned above a try and use Oxyclean on things that need extra help.
