The Netherlands is a country that is densely populated, so probably there will be an lc closer to a mom then me, if I would have to travel one and a half hour. So for moms in the first week, I would do home visits, but I really intend to motivate them to come to me, as I think it will make their motivation clearer, not so much towards me as well as towards themselves. Travelling a certain distance makes you more aware of what you are doing. I think that protects us as lc's against being used as, what we call in Dutch 'excuus-Truus', Truus being an old fashioned girl's name. It means that consulting an lc to have an excuse to quit breastfeeding is likelier when women don't have to put much effort in getting in touch with you. Therefore, consultations in your own office/clinic/practice are to attract more motivated women. That will most certainly limit you clientele, but will probably restrict it to those it is most pleasant to work with. ;o) Bye,nne Vanderveen IBCLC, Netherlands ..
