Guest guest
I LOVE to crochet!! Crocheting is so forgiving if you make a mistake, that's why I love it so much. I have crates of yarn but find myself buying and ordering more! It's so addicting! I wish I could crochet as fast as I buy that yarn! lol Right now I " m working on a full size afghan for a gift. My dear friend " ordered " it for her friends son's high school graduation. I USED to have a business crocheting and then carpel tunnel stepped in - I had to stop. I made everything! doilies, sweaters, hats, scarves, baby booties - all of it. Now I just love to make baby blankets, I love the baby yarns. I could go on forever about it but will spare you! lol much love, barb k. I also love knitting and crocheting as well as gardening, writing, penpals, and calligraphy. I homeschool my son and that keeps me pretty darned busy!LOL Hugs, Peg Barbara K. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Travel Find great deals to the top 10 hottest destinations! Guest guest
Barb, Wow! I'm making an afghan right now, myself, a small throw for my son for his birthday on the 30th. I also love crocheting and do doilies, baby things, and household items. I especially love doilies and lacy things, so I have a ton of patterns for those. I like knitting once in a while, but it goes a bit slower, and you are right, when you make a mistake, it's a lot harder to go back and fix it. I am a member of a charity group called " Newborns in Need " and we make things for the hospitals for preemies and sick babies (also burial layettes for the little ones that don't make it). Its a lot of fun. We meet once a month and discuss knitting and crocheting, share patterns and supplies, and occasionally set up a training day to teach everyone a quiliting pattern or some such. Oops, guess I got a bit sidetracked!LOL Hugs, Peg " Barb K. " wrote: I LOVE to crochet!! Crocheting is so forgiving if you make a mistake, that's why I love it so much. Guest guest
Barb-- Do you use the Hand-Eze gloves when you're crocheting? I've found that they help a lot with the arthritis symptoms when I'm trying to knit or crochet, or do needlework too. I've got almost as many projects started in crocheting and knitting as I do in cross stitch, and I just ordered some Lion Brand chenille to make a cuddly soft afghan...I can't wait to get started on THAT!! Hope I can find my gloves...I haven't been feeling very crafty lately, with all the pain meds and SAD (Seasonally Affected Depression), but spring is coming, I'm having a better day today, and I am waiting (very impatiently) for my new sewing/embroidery machine to get here so I can play!! Guest guest
LOL! I also am a bit crazy at starting new projects and having more than I can get finished laying around. I only have a touch of arthritis in my hands, my problem is with sitting long enough to do anything worthwhile on my projects (arthritis in my lower back and hips), so I end up standing a lot of the time while I work. The problem is with tangling up the yarn while I stand up. I tried to use a fanny pack, but it's too small, so I usually position myself next to a counter or table. I'm also anxious for Spring to get here. Went out today and picked up some bedding plants for the garden in front of the apartment. I take a chance of frost at this time of the year, but it gets really hot at the end of April and during May, so I want my plants to have time to get rooted and established before then. One of the downers of living in the desert. I love Lion Brand Channile yarn! I make my daughter a scarf from it and it is soo yummy!! I also like Red Heart Soft Yarn for kitting bed socks. Nice and soft! What type of sewing machine are you getting? I do quite a bit of sewing, also, and just got a new machine two years ago. It isn't the embroidery type, though it does have a few decerative stitches, but it handles heavy fabrics pretty good and that was my purpose in getting it. I make things for my son (he's autistic and has sensory issues. Most store bought clothing is uncomfortable for him) and I like to make Rennaissance costumes for my daughter and her buddies. Lots of heavy homespun type fabrics and denim for my son. I really understand the feeling of not having interest in hobbies while in pain. I go through times where I don't want to do anything but get glazed eyes and play on the computer. Especially when I'm taking strong pain meds and have nausea issues at the same time. The house goes to pieces, the garden goes to weeds, and I stop my hobbies. Enjoy the warmer weather thats coming! Hugs, Peg Marg B wrote: Barb-- Do you use the Hand-Eze gloves when you're crocheting? Guest guest
Peg-- Fortunately (or unfortunately), because of the arthritis in my feet, I do a lot of sitting anyway, although I should probably make myself get up more often. I keep telling myself to get the kitchen timer in here where my electric chair is, and set it for 30 minutes, to remind me to get up and move. I haven't managed to follow through yet. I used to enjoy gardening, but because it gets so hot down here in the summer, I don't have too much luck--it gets hot, I don't tolerate high heat well (no doubt because of my size), so I don't go out and take care of the plants, and they die. Of course, the last few years that I tried (before I gave up) we were going through a drought, and that didn't help. I ve got a friend now, though, who helps me clean the house, and is going to help take care of the yard, and do some gardening for me, so I'm all excited I got a catalog today from Gardening.com, and an offer for butterfly bushes from Springhill Nursery online, and I'm ready to melt plastic! (G) I have a good friend on my Stitch-n-Chat list who has been making scarves for craft sales from chenille yarn, and she has gotten me really interested in trying it. It's the perfect time of year to be working on an afghan too...it's sometimes cool to chilly, and I sit with a blanket or afghan on my lap, until I have a hot flash, or until I have to wiggle around to try to get my legs comfortable. Right now I just want my ankle to stop hurting...I'm supposed to be walking more, to keep my ankles and feet working better, so I fed the birds today...just walking around a little, with crutches to help support my weight. I finished up, sat down, and after a few minutes, the ankle starts swelling and hurting like H***. I was also about 20 minutes overdue for the next dose of pain meds, so I took that. I got my DH to get a cold compress for the swelling, and it's helping a bit. If I can hang in there, it should start easing off. I got a great deal on a new Singer CE200 sewing/embroidery machine. I've wanted one for years, but couldn't justify the price until I got an email from Joann.com...free shipping and $100 off. I couldn't resist! If you don't hear from me for awhile after it comes, you'll know I'm having a ball playing! (G) Marg -- Re: Peg/crocheting LOL! Guest guest
LOL, we're really alike! I got my machine at Joanne's also, on sale. It's a discontinued model of Viking that I got at half price. (Was an $800.00 machine and I got it for $400.00). I had myself all ready to buy a surger and ended up with this instead. It occured to me when I got to the store, I needed something that could put in button holes and zippers.LOL I know what you mean about having to get out to water. I had the same problem at our old house near here. I would do the planting, but couldn't seem to keep up with the watering and of course it only takes missing a couple days at a time and you loose everything. Its a little easier here in our apartment because the manager has hired gardeners that go through and trim and weed every so often and the place is on a sprinkler system that does all the watering for me. I put in some heat resistant ground cover that blooms big red blossoms and put together a large clay pot with some pansies and primrose. Randy wants me to put a tomato plant in the other clay pot we have, but they aren't available yet (too cold still). By the way, I use a timer and it works for me pretty good. I got one of those little clip on versions with batteries. The doctor told me not to sit longer than 15 minutes at a time while I recover from my back surgery, so I set the little bugger and it keeps me from getting lost in my crocheting or reading and forgetful of my back. I also use it while doing housework so I won't overdo it and strain things. I don't realize I've overdone it sometimes until its too late. Have fun with your new machine!! Guest guest
Peg-- I'm waiting right now to hear from the Fed Ex guy...our gate is electric (plus we have the 2 G. Shepherd's in the yard, and they are large!) and they can't open it, so they called and left a number to call. I called it, got a machine, and left a message. I may just have to stand out in the middle of the road and flag him down! (As if I could stand that long!) I need that machine to get here...my day has not started out well, and I need the excitement and diversion! I have always liked those big clay pots and assortments of flowers...I don't know why, it just appeals to me. I've even thought about trying to paint it...hmmm, wonder if I might be able to draw it out and get it the way I want, and then make it a stitchery graph for hand stitching, or a machine embroidery design...boy, that extra half pain pill must be working!! I also have had some help in my gardening failures...I guess I really shouldn't call them my failures. I had a forsythia bush in the yard for a few years, it was nice and full, and so pretty in the spring, and very little work. We hired a friend to mow the lawn for us, and I went around with her, pointing out where I had various plants that were not to be mowed down, like the iris bed, and the forsythia. The first time went fine, the second time, I went out to do something, and the forsythia bush was gone! It was green at the time, and she thought it was just a weed, or so she said! Sheesh! I figured accidents happen, and let it go, but when my husband found a dent in one of the cars (not one that was running at the time but would be soon), and figured out it had to have been her or one of her helpers, she was fired One of the things I'm going to have my friend plant is another forsythia bush!!! (G) I got a note from Lion Brand today that my yarn is on the way--I can t wait!! I'm going to be having fun, going from the new machine to crocheting with the chenille yarn, or making the hat with the cotton yarn.. I'm going to be in hog heaven. Now if the pain pills just won't make me too loopy, I'll be all set. The sun is shining, too, so hopefully the rain and wet weather will be gone for a few days so I won't be so achy and stiff. Boy what I wouldn't give for a hot tub right now...it's been a long time since I've been able to sit in the tub and soak in the heat...but it sure would feel good! Hmmm, wonder if any of the motels in town have a jacuzzi suite that I could use for a night? Might be worth checking out!!! Marg -- Re: Peg/crocheting LOL, we're really alike!
