Guest guest
Diane, you must have the constitution of a war horse to not have been comotose with a glucose of 25, most people pass out below 35 or 30. Guest guest
Hello all, Marketing is an amazing thing... God, they now have blue Pepsi--which I only now just heard of for the first time, here. They have Red Mountain Dew, called Code Red... they have purple and green ketchup, that thankfully doesn't taste any different... I'm kind of scared to think what they might taste like if they tasted like they looked... well, purple would I guess, be like grape, but Grape Ketchup? Ugh. And Green? MyGod, I don't wanna think about it anymore. Eek! I quit... But wait, I can't quit... what about things like... glow-in-the-dark food? Red Peanut butter, yellow jelly, and glow-in-the-dark bread! Your kids... or you even... could light up the self-made tent under your bedcovers for a midnight snack... and you'd be able to eat food seemingly by candlelight, without the candles! lol. My God, where are we going with this warped trend of gimmicking the food. Here's a true gimmick... make it *good* for you! What a concept. Way ahead of it's time. Too much change for the manufacturers to actually grab ahold of... yet. *smile* I hope y'all have a great and glorious day! Guest guest
Interestingly, blue has been a forbidden color in foods for a very long time. People tend to view it as mold or deterioration of some kind. I wonder if this current marketing ploy will work. Of course, those of us who love blue cheese never paid any attention to such falderal. Guest guest
When I went to college, I boarded at a co-oop where the people that ate there did the work instead of hiring cooks, etc. At first we had milk in half gallon cartons. The different milks according to percentage of fat were in a different colored carton. So at meals instead of someone asking for the 2% milk, they would ask for the red milk. The yera before I joined, the group that was cooking on April Fools Day put food coloring that matched the colors of the cartons which were red, dark blue, light blue and purple. they threw a lot of mmilk away that day! Guest guest
I went over to some friends for the Fourth of July, and the obligatory cookout ensued... and they asked if I wanted green ketchup. I swear to you my first thought was that he meant they found some ketchup that they had left int he back fo the fridge for a bit too long. lol. AFter they explained, I noticed the 3 daughters were all playing and hadn't had any noticable ill-effects, so made myself try it. It was just ketchup. Just food coloring, I guess, in this instance. Guest guest
That is scarey, . I have been having similar happenings in the morning when I get up. For the last several weeks, the BS has been between 41 and 57 when i arise andI don't feel it atall. During the day if I get low, i feel it coming and do the glucose tab thing, but I don't know why i'm not feeling it in the morning. I'm glad i don't live alone! Re: Re: Blue Pepsi I have been having a lot of lows in the 34 to 39 range lately. I used to feel the lows when I would hit around 98. But I don't feel them any more until, like Diane says, it is too late. I haven't passed out yet, but sometimes it is very hard for me to remember what it is I'm supposed to do. The last time I did that, on Sunday morning, I decided to have a individual sized thing of pudding. But I couldn't pull the paper off the top so I could eat it. I was grateful my daughter was home to help me. It is just so hard to think when I get like that. I don't have any idea why that is happening so often now, but I am having them about every 2 days or so at some time during the day. I can't even find a pattern for it. It is scary. Re: Blue Pepsi > > > Diane, you must have the constitution of a war horse to not have > been > > comotose with a glucose of 25, most people pass out below 35 or > 30. Guest guest
Thanks, . The best thing to do when low is drink or eat something that is fast acting. I know we have atalked aobut juice beofre on the list, but it really works good for me and drining about 6 ounces of juice raises my sugar about 40 points, which puts it into the normal range without ouver doing it. I hate that hungry feeling that you have when coming out of alow-and then you tend to over-eat. I have been diabetic so long, I have learned not to do that, so always carry glucose tabs around and when at home, i dring a 6 ounce can of Dole orange-pineapple juice. I carry these with me when I go out of town, too They have a tab lid, which is not too hard to openwhen you are low. Re: Re: Blue Pepsi That really would be scary as well, . I never know when a low will show up. This afternoon I was feeling low and started eating before checking my sugar. I ate some potato chips, which was a really dumb thing to eat. Then I checked it because I still felt terrible and it was only 74 so I don't know how low it was to begin with. But then it is taking me over a half hour or more to stop feeling those feelings of very low sugar and I feel like I still need to eat, so then this evening I went way high and was 446 at supper. I don't usually go quite that high, but this has been happening for the last 3 weeks or so like this and it is driving me crazy, plus making me very tired with all of the lows and highs. I know this is hard on my body. I'm taking sugars anyway from 4 to 10 times a day lately. Take care . I'll be thinking of you. Guest guest
I don't know, I recently had a 34 for some reason and felt just fine, I would not have known had I not going to check it before a meal anyway, what a surprise because, in the past when I get about 47 I start feeling like I am in an internal blizzard. Guest guest
Don't you just hate parties? I do, so much to avoid and try to do it graciously too. People think you are plain nuts if you ask for ice water, don't eat more than one or two chips, pass your piece of cake on to the next person and so on and so forth. Then there are the people who suddenly decide that you can't have anything at all except celery and carrots! I think as a blind person already it is much harder to do a party where there are things you can have in moderation and things you know you had better stay away from, everyone wants to help, so in one instance when I specified from the fare what I knew I could have the person assisting got me to a place to sit down then said " I gave you some of that and that and that since you did not ask for them. " Part of me wants to tell them never to do something unless I say so, but, of course, diplomacy wins, but then someone picks up a plate with something I left behind and wonders if I and unhappy with the food! Needless to say, I am not fond of parties, never was that fond of them, but now it is even more trying. I guess I am a party pooper! Rose Combs rosecombs@...
