Goats are my favorite animal here, chickens my least favorite. Goats need

graze. The eat the opposite of cows. Cows graze, eating grass and low to the

ground. Goats want what is called browse, small trees, weeds, tree branches,

the neighbor's roses, briars. One word on raising goats: FENCING. Do it and

do it right or all your time will be spent cussing and chasing goats.

I think Acres USA is wonderful. They sell a book called Raising Goats

Naturally or something like that by Pat ? Not sure of the last name.

I've found it to be helpful.

What do you want goats for? meat? milk? both?

If you think we might bore the folks on here with too much animal info, feel

free to email me. There's nothing I like more than answering goat questions.

I would like to get started with milk goats and poultry and would

like to know what sort of resources are out there to learn from. In

particular I need to learn how to create fertile pasture for the

animals, what to grow for forage, what to supplement their feed with,

etc... I was impressed with the www.acresusa.com site and they seem

to have alot of good books, so I may check those out...Does anyone

have any opinions on Acres USA? What other sort of books, or other

information is out there to learn from? I am totally new at all of

this and it can be overwhelming. Where do you learn how to do all of

this in accordance with NT's philosophies? Fortunatly, I will be

attending a pastured poultry workshop in March presented by Heifer

International that will cover some of the basics...

Any help would be appreciated!!

I read AcresUSA all the time, even though I'm not a farmer. I think you can

learn a lot from some of their books.

Peace,

Kris , gardening in northwest Ohio - and 4 days behind in her

reading!

>>>Is there a message board you have seen for

organic/sustainable/authentic/bio-dynamic farming questions? ACRES,

USA is a good publication and their annual convention is good, I've

heard. I haven't gone to any yet. It's nice to get answers between

conventions anyway. By the way I heard of NT and fermented

beverages in ACRES, USA. This message board has been helpful for farm

questions when farmers and other experts " write " about the subject at

hand. Dennis 12:05 AM 3/1/2002
