Punitive, even - like a ploy to get patients to reject non-mercury fillings as economically impractical. If I was you, I'd find a mercury-free dentist and get a second opinion (try these links http://www.talkinternational.com/mfdsindex3.htm and http://www.holisticdental.org/). Also be aware that the standard white composite material is not biologically compatible for every person, some have a reaction such as gum inflamation, but there are other alternatives. I just can't see that $3000 figure as justified, unless these 5 fillings are extremely complicated and huge. > It sort of seems like y'all are > more into raw foods than she is. There are some very active members on this list who are big proponents of an all- or mostly-raw diet, but you're right in that NT does not emphasize it nearly so much. I believe Sally says to aim for a 50% raw diet, and I tend to agree with that. I do believe many serious illnesses can be addressed using an extreme diet of raw foods (including animal foods), but I think most people on this list do not advocate such a diet as routine for a generally healthy person. I'm not trying to fan the flames of debate here, just give Sonja an idea of the idealogy of the list in general. It's not a " raw food " list, it's supposed to be about discussing NT-type cooking and foods (which includes raw foods), and related health issues. Guest guest
> I want to know more about how to solve my dental problem with the raw diet. sonja, last fall there was a long thread about this, starting at the end of august and going to at least the beginning of november, with subject " teeth " then " white oak bark " . you could either check out the messages for those months (start with sept, then go back to catch the beginning of the thread, if you want) from the home page. or search the archives for " teeth " . a few wks before that thread started, i had excruciating dental pain that was not going away, so i started making plans to see a dentist. (i last saw a dentist in '95.) in the meantime, i thought that i would look in dr balch's (non-NT) _prescription for nutritional healing_ for a recommendation for the pain. after the list of supplements was a recommendation to eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables for their minerals that prevent the saliva from becoming too acidic. so i started eating salads, which i had previously avoided because of my IBS, and the pain went away. ok, i also cut back on those addictive NT almond cookies <g>. i know that absence of pain doesn't mean absence of decay, but then i read the thread on regeneration of teeth.... i hope that you find some relief as easily as i-- allene

Is this something Sally would recommend? It sort of seems like y'all are more into raw foods than she is. I know that she is, but NT didn't seem to emphasize it as much as all of you dear people do. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. Me: No it would be inaccurate to characterize this list as a raw food list although there are a number of people on this list who are very much into raw foods. NT does not *emphasize* it as much as some on this list do, but it is most certainly present in the book and Sally does mention that we should *all* eat some raw *animal* protein, but beyond that you won't get much information. Most of the people I interact with who are trying to follow a NT lifestyle eat very little raw food outside of fruits and vegetables. Those who have access to raw dairy perhaps eat slightly more. But in essence most advocates of NT aren't really much different than your average vegetarian in that respect. And yet one of the priceless observations made by Dr. Price (pun intended) is the daily consumption of raw animal protein by the various groups, and the great extent they went to procure such foods. I would dare say that a person that has a very small amount of raw animal protein in their diet has yet to fully come to grips with the work of Dr. Price. I would go even further and suggest that many following a NT way are actually following a truncated version of it. The amount of raw food in most NT'ers diet, in my experience, is pitifully small, and to say it constitutes 25% of their diet would be GENEROUS. I find that many NT people are trying to compress a NT framework into a S.A.D. mentality. From a health perspective, it doesn't work for a lot of people who end up disillusioned with the results they get from that approach. You can't help but be astonished at the amount of raw food eaten by the groups profiled on the Weston Price website. I'm even more astonished by the number of people who simply ignore the raw meat appetizer section of NT. They want to think of RAF as an option, whether dairy, meat or seafood, rather than an integral part of the observations of Dr. Price, which they were. Whatever the actual percentage by any particular group, to minimize the role of RAF, whether theoretically or functionally, which is the case for many NT people, is a misleading skewing of what Price actually observed. A further problem is that for the reversal of disease, RAF is not an option at all, at least not for most folks. And yes you can most definitely solve your dental problems with a RAF diet of the Price variety. I have my first good piece of liver in the fridge. I want to eat it raw. What do I do? Me: My first piece of raw liver? I ground it up and mixed it with my homemade tomato cocktail. Things have gotten much better since then :-)
