,

I got my Bachelor's in English and Master's in Psychology at Angelo

State Univesity in San Angelo. To clarify: our pediatrician lives in

Midland. Midland has an excellent hospital and has recently redone its

entire pediatric ward. There is another hospital in Midland also, but I

don't much care for it or the doctors that practice there. It's

entirely private and isn't accepted by my insurance. Midland Memorial

has been in Midland for over 50 years.

There aren't too many specialists in Midland who are either willing to

see my daughter because she is so young or my ped. doesn't trust them

well enough to send us to them. The ENT who did her adenoidectomy is a

great doctor, don't get me wrong. She just isn't as well-versed in ped.

issues as we would like her to be. The allergist who saw her only did

so as a favor and prefers to see her again when she's closer to 4 or 5.

There isn't a ped. immunologist in town--all of them are concentrated in

adult care. For these reasons we get referred out for care. Up until

now, we have been lucky in getting some care in the Midland area.

I am familiar with Hospital in San Angelo, but it's my

understanding that Shannnon was sold in the last year or two and is no

longer the community hospital? I know there's a private health

foundation that was set up in San Angelo due to the sale of the

hospital. (One of my jobs in the nonprofit I work for is grant research

and grant writing. It' so much fun to spend other people's money!)

Maurita,

Autumn started getting the flu shot last year, but she has to be

completely healthy to get it again this year. My 5 year old also gets

the flu shot every year. My husband refuses to take the shot. He had a

relative who had a severe reaction to one batch of the flu shot about 6

years ago and died from it. Since then, he's sworn off the shot. I'll

have to get my O.B.'s approval to get the shot and I go again for a

recheck in the first of Nov.

I'm about 11 weeks along now and so far, so good. The morning sickness

is getting better--at first, I was sick every day all day long. Now I'm

just tired all the time. I've also had a bad cold since Thursday that

I'm hoping is almost over. Other than that, everything looks great!

Thanks for asking.

Ray, mother to Tabitha (age 5) and Autumn, age 3 (IgG def.,

asthma, chronic sinusitis, and allergies--unknown)
