Guest guest
, Aseptic menengitis has all the same symptoms as viral or bacerial menengitis - high temp, nausea and vomiting, stiff neck, sensitivity to light - with the exception of the fact that there is no infection. It is a known, but rare side effect to IVIg. It seems that is prone to it. We have reduced the number of incidences by running her infusion soooooo slowly that it almost drips backwards!!Ha!Ha! This has not completely solved the problem though because she still has problems sometimes - for example, last treatment she got sick. Luckily she did not get dehydrated enough to go to the ER, because we have a hard time convincing them that she does not need a spinal tap! I hope that this info helps. Guest guest
, my son Matt is also prone to aseptic meningitis from IVIG. We have noticed that slowing the rate down significantly it keeps the syptoms down to a minimum. The rate goes no higher than 60ml per hour. 2 days after infussion he gets a headache (of the meningitis type) decreased appitite, and temp 100-101. The following morning he is fine. OK, for you veterans of sinus surgery - " bilateral intranasal antrastomies with biopsies " & repair of broken nose - what can I expect. Also the insertion of the PICC line. Everything is planned for Friday Jan 5. What kind of pain might Matt have? What will he be able to eat? Can he chew alright. What about the PICC line - is there tenderness? I appreciate what ever feedback you all might have so that I can go into this with some emotional preparation. As it is it will be a late long day. We are to be at the hospital at 12noon to check into same day surgery. We are expecting to go home that night. Thanks again Helen
