Heifer Project International

Everyone:

This is definitely off-topic but important nonetheless. A unique charity

exists called the Heifer Project International. Basically, it supplies poor

people around the world with livestock animals, as well as the training to

care for them, to encourage self-sufficiency, rather than dependency on

human rights organizations or hand-outs from others. The charity has been

around for several decades and I urge you all to consider making a donation.

I've plugged them several times in my newsletter because I think the idea is

so superb.

Just $20 buys a flock of chicks for a family in need. Visit

http://www.heifer.org to see more.

One reason I'm plugging them again is because those lunatics at PeTA have

recently issued press releases condemning the charity, calling it

" murderous " and " exploitative " of animals. Imagine that! Helping someone not

to starve to death is murderous and exploitative! You can read excerpts of

PeTA's sick sermonizing about Heifer at http://www.animalrights.net.

All the best,

Byrnes, PhD, RNCP

I gave Heifer Project animals as Christmas gifts a couple years ago.

Excellent program.

Good to hear a firsthand account. I'd like to visit

their demonstration farm here in CA. I've never heard

anything bad about them, except for this idiocy from

PETA.

I got a Heifer Project mailer 5 years ago or so. It gave me the impression

then that missionaries were who went with the livestock to the areas

needing them. That did bother me in that I personally believe the cultural

beliefs of the many countries of the world should be left intact. Just

looking at the website there was a quote saying Heifer Project goes in,

teaches self sufficiency skills and leaves. That made me feel better. In

the faq though it gives all the world religious groups that are the Heifer

Project. If I knew for sure there was no effort other than the world

commonalitiy of food raising made to the world recipients of Heifer Project

I'd support it. This will likely bother some being a controversial subject.

If so, I apologize. Cultural preservation is important to me having Native

American ancestry with so much lost.
