Guest guest
Hello everyone, Well darn it, we went to have IVIg again yesterday and even though we started out at 5mls per hour then after 30 minutes we went up to 10ml/hr and after another hour went up to 15ml/hr then after 2 hours went up to 20 ml/hr... still broke out. This time it started when he had 6 mls to go rather than 3 mls. We even cut his rate back by more than half. It used to take about 1 1/2 hours for the whole infusion and yesterday we took 5 hours to complete it!! And we gave him Benidryl before starting and agian when we noticed him breaking out in hives. And I again had to give it to him later because he still had hives when he went to bed last night. So this is where we are...6 weeks ago, he got hives with 3 mls to go and he got better within just about 30-45 minutes using Benidryl. But he did get a headache the next day as well. Then 3 weeks ago, he hived out really really bad (his whole body was a hive..even his ears) and it went away after Benidryl and about 5 -6 hours or so and no headache. But the hives that time were extreemly painful for him and he hated to be touched!! Then yesterday, we take the percautions and he breaks out but the hives are still there today, not raised though just the redness in a blotchy manner. So here is my 'therory'... Since seems to always break out sometime in the last 10 mls no matter how much time it took to get to them, I would almost say that his body is reacting because he maybe can't handle that much in his system. That maybe we need to back off from 6 grams to 5 grams? We are going in this next time in 4 weeks instead of 3 to see what happens. But IF, he has another break out next time, I think I will just have to convince them to only give him 5grams IVIg and see what occures. Any thoughts???
