Guest guest
Got this from another list.... Hello! Thanks for your interest in Laughing Valley Dried Foods All our products are dried at low temperature (below 40 degrees celsius) to maintain the nutrient content of the raw food (enzymes, vitamins). The fruits are the products of " Natural Way of Farming " (no tilling, no fertilisers, no weeding, no pesticides and minimum irrigation) for more concentrated flavor. Animals products are from animals raised organically as closely as possible to their natural original diet (ie. grass for herbivorous animals) and lifestyle (outdoors in large range area). Among the many other health advantages of raw animal products, the omega 3's content of the fat is very high as in wild animals (fishs). All seafood is wild. Prices are dried weight and shown in Canadian/US dollars. Shipping is extra. Dried fruits (pears, apples, plums, blackberries, strawberries) $4.50 to $5.00 the package (100 grams) lamb jerky CDN$60 / US$45 per pound lamb pemmican (natural, unseasoned) CDN$75 / US$55 beef jerky (natural, unseasoned) CDN$50 / US$35 per pound beef pemmican CDN$65 / US$45 per pound sockeye salmon CDN$80 / US$60 per pound chum salmon CDN$50 / US$35 per pound dried shrimps CDN$35 / US$25 per pound dried chicken CDN$60 / US$45 per pound lamb organs 50 CDN$ per pound 35US$ chickens organs 60 CDN$ per pound 45US$ salmon eggs 60 CDN$ per pound 45US$ fats 35 CDN $ perpound 25US$ The availability of the products is variable with the seasons. Guest guest
That's really the first time I've heard that touted, however, it does make some sense. Frequent weeding isn't particularly good for the soil: it disrupts the ecology of it by mixing up different layers that shouldn't really be mixed up, it makes it dry out faster, encourages erosion, etc. How much it really matters, I don't know... I've read some really good articles on weed-free, till-free gardening. There was one in Mother Earth News about a year ago... Well, there's weeding and then there's weeding. If you plant your vegetables in the right pattern in a deep bed (per Seymour's excellent _The Self-Sufficient Gardener_, which sadly seems to be out of print) you choke out a lot of weeds right off the bat. And if you use a good hoe to cut off a weed just below the surface of the soil and let the weed rot on the ground as mulch (or compost it) you don't disturb the soil to any meaningful degree. -
Guest guest
I am currently trying/have done some of those methods, lasagna gardening and mulching. But given the choice and the stamina to do it, I would remove the weeds from a bare soil garden IF I wanted some vegetables.
