Guest guest
Hello, Based on info from the list and other sources, I went about making a proof box. It started out as a project for proofing sourdough but I am also culturing my milk items in it. Ed Woods sourdough book describes making a proof box from a styrofoam cooler-- He takes the cooler and cut a hole in the top and insert a light socket. Ed uses a dimming switch to regulate his temp. I looked around a little for a syrofoam cooler and didn't find one so I just rigged up my standard plastic cooler--I set it in a corner of the kitchen floor out of the way and got a lamp kit from the home supply store. A lamp kit is the " guts " that you would put into a decorative vase or such to make your own lamp. It consists of a cord you can plug into the wall and a socket to fit a bulb. I put the bulb into the cooler inside a mug or bowl to keep it from touching the plastic cooler inself. I change bulbs to change the temp--a 15watt bulb will keep my cooler an even 85 degrees (sourdough). Jamay
