Friends of Autism Presents

Summer 2006 Conference and Dinner

Friday June 9th

8:30-4:00: Bobby Newman, PhD, BCBA Presents: " It's About Autonomy "

Dr. Newman will discuss various ways to help people with autism

overcome challenging behaviors that interfere with independence.

Covered topics will include self-injury, toilet training and feeding

problems, aggression, self-stimulatory behaviors and more.

6:30 pm: Friends Of Autism Fundraising Dinner: Weissgerber's Seven

Seas Restaurant, 1807 Nagawicka Rd., Hartland, WI. (A short drive

from the Olympia Resort.) $100.00 per person includes hors de vours,

cocktails, dinner and live music. (We have a great swing band, so

bring your dancing shoes!)

This semi-formal dinner will honor Dr. Glen Sallows, PhD, BCBA and

Tamlynn Graupner, MS for their work in replicating the research of

Dr. Ivar Lovaas, and for their outstanding contribution to autism

treatment in Wisconsin. Also being honored, The Association For

Science In Autism Treatment (ASAT) for this organization's dedication

to promoting evidence-based treatment for children with autism.

Special guests include Dr. Bobby Newman, current president of ASAT,

Dr. Maurice, past president and co-founder of ASAT and Dr.

Bridget , advisory board member. We applaud their tireless

efforts in supporting effective treatments for children with autism.

Morning: " Improving the Social Behavior of children with Autism: a

Focus on Acquisition and Motivation "

Afternoon: " Let's Play: Incorporating Peers Into the Treatment of

Children With Autism. "

Sunday June 11th, 8:30 to 4:00:

Keynote Address: Wisconsin Early Autism Project: " From Early

Beginnings to Publication, and Beyond. " Glen Sallows, PhD, BCBA.,

and Tamlynn Graupner, M.S., present their recently published study

replicating the 1987 Study of Dr. Ivar Lovaas. They will share

stories of WEAP's beginnings, and changes in treatment over the

years, present videotapes of therapy and describe what they have

learned about treatment variables that appear to influence outcome.
