I find the stomach crunches both (front & sides)uncomfortable with the little

steel bow. so here's my variation -

Front crunch: instead of placing the steel bow in my crutch I put it on the

ground between my feet. Try it. I feel it more 'crunchy' than on the seat of

the chair.

Side Crunch: I place the steel bow against the base of each front leg of the

chair & lean out to the side more instead of putting it against my outer thigh

on the seat of the chair.

Just keep your arms straight through the movement & crunch away.

Give it a try u guys and let me know your opinions.
