An advanced workshop intended for:

Those who have attended an introductory workshop concerning teaching

language to children with autism, and those who work directly with the

child. Although the basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and

Verbal Behavior will be reviewed, a prerequisite understanding will be

assumed. Emphasis will be on advanced analysis and implementation of

procedures. Hands on practice will be the focal point of this workshop.

About This Workshop

This workshop is intended for a small audience (maximum of 30). Dr.

Sundberg and the VBCA therapists will direct hands on practice of the

procedures used to teach children with language delays.

Small group (5-8 per instructor) demonstration and practice will be

provided on:

How to effectively prompt

How to effectively fade

How to conduct transfer trials

How to conduct correction trials

How and when to reinforce

How to get the most of a reinforcer

How to thin the schedule of reinforcement

How to mix tasks from various skill areas

How to mix tasks from different levels of mastery

How to do errorless training

How to create natural environment teaching situations

How to teach the child in a group

How to get thousands of trials per day

How to make the trials meaningful

How to keep the child motivated

How to know what to teach

How to know when to push and when to back off (without reinforcing

negative behavior)

How to effectively use shaping

How to use a variable ratio schedule of reinforcement

How to arrange the environment to make it more conducive to learning

How and when to take data

How to make effective use of the ABLLS

And more

In addition there will be:

Discussions on advanced topics

Video demonstrations

Some individual assessment

Some break out sessions to insure that your child's special needs

are addressed

Development of Natural Environment Lesson plans

Discussion of school placement

About the Presenter

Carl Sundberg is the behavior analyst for the Verbal Behavior Center for

Autism. He received his Ph.D., in Applied Behavior Analysis from Western

Michigan University. He has 20 years experience working with special

populations and has taught behavior analysis at the university level for

7 years. He has been working exclusively with children with autism for

the past 7 years implementing verbal behavior programs in homes,

schools, and clinical settings.

About the Associate Therapists

Associate therapists/consultants have the BCABA (Board Certified

Associate Behavior Analyst) designation. These associate therapists will

be available to direct the hands on exercises.

Angel Ludlow, a board certified associate behavior analyst, has worked

in the field of behavior analysis with children with autism for 7 ½

years. For the past 2 years she has worked as a junior consultant under

Dr. Sundberg. In addition to being employed as a consultant at the

Verbal Behavior Center for Autism she is also their program and skills

trainer.

Ally Labrie is a board certified associate behavior analyst. She has

worked at the Verbal Behavior Center for Autism since 2003. Through the

VBCA Ally has gained experience as a therapist, trainer, and junior

consultant. She has experience in both program writing and the hands on

application of ABA procedures.

Bricker is a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst. She has

worked with children for 10+ years and has worked at the Verbal Behavior

Center for Autism (VBCA) for over two years. is currently

working as a VB Therapist and a trainer.
