Guest guest
Missy, Hello. My son is taking Prozac with success. The psychiatrist we saw suggested Celexa, and our Pdoc wanted us to try Prozac. Her opinion was that she felt that children have been taking it for many years. The brain is a very different from person to person, and what works for my child may not for another. I know how hard it can be, and I wish you lots of luck. Your other question was in regards to alternative therapies. My son was diagnosed in preschool, and was prescribed Prozac. At that time I felt he was too young, and looked for another solution. We had a wonderful Alternative Wellness Center, that treated my son with 5HTP. This balanced his seratonin levels, and helped until 3rd grade. Unfortunately, my son's symptoms increased in April of this year. We tried going to the same Wellness Center without the same success. We also tried accupuncture, with some, but very temporary success. His symptoms became severe, and medication was the only resource left. I will say it has made all the difference, but we are still battling new symptoms daily. My son had two " normal kid " days in a row, and I can count on one hand how many of those days we've had since April. So 2 back to back is pretty good. He started to have the bad thoughts and worry again this evening, as he is tierd. He like MANY, is worse when he is tierd, but due to the OCD has horrible insomnia. So it is a no win situation. I know I went on a bit. I hope that this answers some of your questions. Good luck with your decision, DeeAnn >
Guest guest
My son has been on the generic of Prozac (Fluoxatine) for a couple of years now. I can tell you that we can't " live " without it!! We got to 60mg and thought we stopped seeing 'results', what we stopped seeing was improvement - but after stopping it, I can tell you that it certainly was doing a lot of good!!!! We went back on it and are currently at a lower dose (so we could add a mood stabalizer) and things are better right now than in a long time. He's taking 4 different meds right now, but he's back to being the boy I know is in there somewhere. Good luck. I know some of the responses sound scary - but everybody reacts differently and you never know until you try. We also use melatonin when he can't sleep. > > Hi everyone, > I posted earlier this week that we are planning on switching my son from zoloft to prozac because of a possible reaction to the zoloft (impulsive behavior). Since then, everyone I talk to isn't too hot on Prozac for OCD including our therapist. She said she just hasn't seen it work as well. Thoughts? > > Also, what kind of alternative therapies have you tried, and have they helped? > > Thanks, Missy > >
