HPSO, the PLI to the APTA, now will cover PTs practicing on animals with certain stipulations. First, animals must be considered property in your state, you must be a licensed PT, and you must not work in a state that explicitly states in rules and regulations that practice of animal rehab by PTs is illegal. The policy only covers the animal as property damage to your client and is, at minimum, $500 per incident. Increased amounts of coverage can be elected. Let me know if you have any difficulty with pursuing this policy as the president of HPSO approved it himself.

Also, I know that Travelers and Zurich have underwritten PTs practicing in animal rehab.

The veterinary office in which you work may have a policy that includes your practice as well.

Best of luck.

Does anyone know of a company that provides professional liability insurance to PTs that work on animals?
