Guest guest
I have been a member of this group for some time now but have never posted before. I took Lipitor for about 2 1/2 years and stopped more than 2 years ago but the pains in my legs (behind my knees and in the backs of my thighs) have worsened. I have had diabetes type I for 37 years and am so tired of being told that the problems I am experiencing in my legs are caused by osteoarthritis and/or diabetic neuropathy. X-rays and blood tests show no arthritis, bone density tests are excellent and venous doppler exams are normal. I cannot get any of my doctors (family doctor, endocrinologist, orthopaedist) to listen to my concerns about the effects of Lipitor. I have suffered in the past from carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists and bursitis in both shoulders and have received cortisone injections. Not one doctor will consider that maybe, just maybe, the problem in my legs may be connected. I am at the point where I have difficulty getting up from a seated position, getting in and out of my car and the bathtub and am unable to get anything from the bottom shelves in my kitchen cupboards. Gardening has become a nightmare rather than a joy. I have read up on all the supplements recommended on this list but find myself unable to afford them. I retired from teaching 3 years ago and am stymied by the prohibitve costs of necessary pharmaceuticals (insulins, syringes, test strips and 4 months of each year in which I must also pay the entire cost of prescriptions for Nexium, Zelnorm, synthroid and hormones because I have exceeded my coverage). In addition, we must now pay a provincial health premium (Ontario, Canada) and my health insurance premium has increased by $10 per month. Doctors are in extremely short supply and wait times for specialists are lenghty and require a referral. I'm angry and frustrated and don't know what to do. Just needed to rant. Thought I'd pass along this article: http://health.msn.com/centers/cholesterol/articlepage.aspx?cp- documentid=100135171 & GT1=8156 Anne
Guest guest
Maggy...thanks so much for the input and the link. I created a smaller url for the link you sent for the article because it was too long for my page and was split. If anyone else had the same problem here is a link that will work. http://tinyurl.com/fkjvh Very interesting article. Guest guest
You have to wonder if the doctors just don't know anything else to do or if they are doing it because they are afraid of lawsuits. My wife has a friend who's husband had a heart attack recently. They put in stints and immediately started Crestor. I sent the friend some information, told her to get husband to join this list and call me. As far as I know they have done none of those things. The white coats win again.
