Total Elbow Replacement protocol

We had first total elbow replacement referral today. At 4 weeks post surgery, the dog is minimally weight bearing, had reduced range of motion (90 deg. flexion, extension close to normal) and some crepitus near full flexion. As we did not have a surgical report, and were unable to speak to the surgeon until after the appointment, I proceeded very conservatively today. Basically, I lasered & stretched both shoulders (tight from compensating), worked gentle ROM on the elbow, did some compression massage around and above the elbow to reduce edema, and did a very short uwtm session (4 x 10 steps plus 30 seconds of easy swimming). The dog left looking much, much better than when it arrived with leg use 80% of steps.

I managed to catch the surgeon after the appointment, and he was unable to comment on effectiveness and/or contraindications of laser around the implants.

Does anyone have experience rehabbing a total elbow replacement? If yes, can you comment on when you feel laser is appropriate and safe? Any other comments on your protocol you wish to share?

My plan right now is to proceed conservatively working to improve ROM, reduce edema, and improve use/reduce muscle atrophy (manual therapies, uwtm, home exercises).
