Trying again -- Scholarships to VB conference

We have received a grant for ten $100 scholarships for this conference. To

be eligible, we must receive your full registration fee between March 15 and

March 28. (Please indicate on your registration form if you would like

your name put into the drawing.) Those people whose names are drawn will be

notified by April 1, and will receive their scholarship money at the

conference.

Workshop #1: Introduction to Verbal Behavior -- Dr. Carbone

About The Workshop

This three day workshop focuses on the behavioral approach to teaching

communication skills to children with autism and other developmental

disabilities. This approach is based on B.F. Skinner's analysis of verbal

behavior and the research of , Sundberg, Partington, and others.

What will the workshop cover?

Dr. Carbone will provide strategies for effective treatment for children

with autism and other developmental disabilities. During the workshop,

attendees will learn how to:

.. Conduct a Behavioral Language Assessment

.. Select an appropriate form of communication for a child (vocal,

signing, pointing to or exchanging pictures, or activating an augmentative

device)

.. Select the communication responses and supporting skills that

should be taught first.

.. Recommend teaching procedures for children who have no formal

communication skills.

.. Use errorless teaching techniques

.. Use quick-transfer (prompting and fading) procedures.

.. Implement discrete trial training in the natural environment and

during intensive teaching session.

Who Should Attend?

Family member or professionals who work with individuals on the autism

spectrum will learn powerful new techniques for developing and enhancing

communication skills by attending this three day workshop.
