Guest guest
We actually started with games that would require stop/go scenarios (i.e. green light/red light/stop/go and musical chairs and would say music stopped) and would reinforce heavily for participating. Then we took the games outside as well as we would take her for short walks and along the way, we would say " we're going to take 5 steps and stop (of course in a very fun way) " and this all started with a reinforcement (favorite treats) schedule of 1 and we increased requirements over time. Then we venture it into stores and she could only walk along side me and not be in a cart and she would be able to get a toy/treat for walking through the store along side me. When we first started at the stores, we went only with the goal of walking through the store for short periods and did not make her wait for me to shop for anything, just walking. We have been able to fade buying treats at the store. Of course all this is with lots of practice. We are still working on this (it is working well) and in hopes that she learns to like not to run from us and understands " stop " concept. Hope it helps. [ ] Teaching STOP Hello, Does anyone have any wonderful teaching ideas or data programs you have run to teach a child to stop for safety reasons? Child is running out into streets and the yelling NO and loud whistle are not helping. Any help you can offer will be AWESOME.
