Guest guest
Hello, Today I saw a dog with BPPV and weakness in the hind limbs. The owners are interested in getting the BPPV treated but I cannot provide that being a tech so I was wondering if anyone knew of someone around Cincinnati who may be able to perform the technique. Also, the dog who is 14, has been going to the UWTM for about a month and he is getting stronger. He is also getting acupuncture which has helped a lot. Does anyone have any suggestions about exercises that would be good for him? I have them doing massage to the neck, weight shifting, cavaletti rails, limbo, slow walk, figure 8s and inclines as tolerated. Thanks! Guest guest
Hey , I may throw in some bridging exercises (snoopies/ diagonal and ipsolateral), Physio-ball work, wobble/ rocker board or other off balance exercises. I have also used various sized plastic cups Velcroed to a board and put treats in them to maybe help with nose coordination. I think the main focus is to always challenge the patient just enough to throw them off balance yet still allowing them to be successful in righting themselves. Guest guest
Great suggestions, thank you.By the way this dog has not been diagnosed with BPPV. He was diagnosed with acute vestibular disease (I think, still unable to get in touch with one of the referring vets!).Take care, Combs RVT, CCRPCincinnati, OhioThe greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.-Mohandas Gandhi
