Guest guest
Amy, I don't know much detail about the child who is interested about signs. I can try to brain storm with you. I assume that this signs are not readily available at home, and the motivation (EO) for them is very high when he is out in the community. Maybe having a collection of the common signs at home and let him have frequent access to them may decrease his motivation of checking out all the signs when he goes out. I'm not sure what maintains the behavior in the community. Assuming that it is maintained by automatic reinforcement, " rushing pass the signs " may actually increase the motivation. Are there competing reinforcers when they are out in the community? Can the parent reinforce him for talking about things other than signs?
