im new to this group and i dont know much about ABA and all of the

different behavioural modification methods...ive only ever done rdi

with my child but i have an incredibly open mind to anything that

works...my son is doing great with his recovery (he just turned six)

and all of the biomedical and rdi things are working (along with a

lot of things i make up on my own)...ive never done aba with him and

dont know anything about it...with all of that said i am focusing on

teaching him to communicate better and am focusing on the concept

of " why " ...he kinda gets it and kinda doesnt...if i ask him 'why are

you wearing a coat' he will say 'because its cold' or if i ask

him 'why do you want something to eat' he might say 'because im

hungry' but he also might say 'chicken and hamburger' which is what

he might be eating that night...and if i ask him 'why do the cars

have their lights on' he doesnt say 'because its dark' ...he often

just says something like 'the cars lights are on'...and often when i

word the " why " question a certain way you can tell by his reply that

he treats it as if i said " what " instead of " why " .

what i was wondering is will this approach that is being advocated

in this group be able to teach my son things like this (the concept

and use of the word 'why') and other language/communication issues?

thanks! phil commander
