Before that I teached my son signs for manding in natural enviroments. But it's hard to teach him imitation skills and receptive language skills in the natural enviroment. Our consult helped us set up intensive teaching seesion on the table and using my son's favorite video as reinforcer. Now our problem is: after I paused video, my son immediately signed video for me and I didn't have chance to teach him new skills. Even I caught some opportunity to do some trials, he just kept signing video for me and didn't pay attention to my instructions at all. So the video kindly distracted him from following my instructions, it worked more likely as distraction to follow my command than reinforcer. Before I also used some reinforcers to ask him work for some trial such as some motor imitation and manding before giving him reinforcer. But he became upset very soon and would threw the reinforcer on the floor and didn't want to reach them for a long time. Only pacifer and video are consistant reinforcers. But if he saw the two them he will immediately mand them and I can't introduce any new trials. So my question is: what's suggestions for reinforcers to be used during intensive teaching? Before we use food, favorite toys as reinforcers, but my son became very upset soon. Now we use video as reinforcer but it seems distract him to follow my instructions. Thanks a lot for any inputs.
