Subject: [biofeedback] Understanding the Autism Spectrum: our

particpation is key!

biofeedback

Hello Everyone,

I belong to the Parent Advisory Group of ASD-CARC

(www.asdcarc.com) a group of researchers, clinicians and

parents who are carrying our interdisciplinary research aimed

at Understanding the Autism Spectrum.

We know that ASDs are highly variable, and ASD-CARC (Autsim

Spectrum Disorder - Canadian American Reserach Consortium)

is trying to group families according to similar

characteristics (e.g repetitive and OCD behaviours, physical

features, sleep issues, social interaction

characteristics, immunological problems, and so on), and to

identify genetic and environmental factors contributing to

them. Many of the studies are carried out on-line through a

secure website.

Ther are some really exciting genetic results and which need

further study so there is a need for involvment by more

multiplex families (more than one child affected) as well as

simplex families (one family member affected) participating

in the genetics.

Dr. Jeanette Holden, PhD (Queen's University, Kingston,

Ontario, Canada) is the program director of ASD-CARC and has

a brother with autism who is 53. (You can read about his

amazing transition from illiterate and non-verbal less than 2

years ago, to speaking (non-stop at times!) and writing his

own sentences on a computer.)

There are several different studies on-line: for the

results of other questionnaires to be used, you need to

complete the PDD-BI on all children in your family. (This is

the pivotal questionnaire.) Please help us Understand the

Autism Spectrum, by joining the research

of ASD-CARC.(www.asdcarc.com).

Only when people participate can the answers be found!

Yours in hope,

Miles
