Guest guest
Do you know how many hours per week the kids will have in average? Will there have any age limited for ABA program? I mean that the ABA prorgram just for a autstic kid from 3 to ? years old. Sped Mom <spedmom@...> wrote: Pennsylvania supplies free ABA through the Wraparound System. However, the availability of " Wrap " agencies with good ABA program varies from one part of the state to another. Pittsburgh is especially good. Wraparound is paid for by Pennsylvania Medical Assistance. " MA " is available to any child with autism, regardless of family income. There is no waiting list for a " waiver " . Instead, you just present your diagnostic documentation at a PA Dept. of Public Welfare Office. (The one in Downtown Pittsburgh has long lines, but the case managers there know their stuff). My only caution about Pittsburgh is that while there are a number of good ABA providers (ones who will actually have room on their rosters for a new kid!), the VB component is not one bit well-developed here. Basically, it's at the so-minimal-it-might-as-well-be-absent stage that ABA was at in Pittsburgh a decade ago. By the way, MA will also cover speech/language, OT and PT. If you have regular insurance, it will cover anything that the regular insurance will not-- including your co-payments for doctor's visits and prescriptions for your child. It's a nice thing. And, our state budget is balanced in spite of all this spending! Go figure! Recommended ABA providers in Pittsburgh: Merck Clinic of Western Pychiatric Institute http://wpic.upmc.com/ChildAdolescentSvcs.htm (preschoolers only) Northwestern Human Services http://www.nhsonline.org/ The PLEA Agency http://www.plea-agency.org/bhrs.html Pressley-Ridge http://www.pressleyridge.org/ (Never-ending wait list, but it can't hurt to put your child on it). Wesley Spectrum Family & Child Development Center http://www.wesleyspectrum.org/family-child-dev-center.htm All of the above have strong reputations. I would suggest you avoid the following, however, because they have been known to assign behavioral consultants without ABA experience to ABA cases.
