Job Description for Abstinence Education Curriculum Reviewer – Medical Accuracy

Brief Description:

The Family and Youth Services Bureau seeks a medical doctor or registered nurse to conduct a review to determine medical accuracy in curricula identified by Community-Based Abstinence Education (CBAE) grant applicants for use in their abstinence education programs.

Duties:

Abstinence education programs help youth to develop strong character and delay sex until marriage. A curriculum reviewer is needed to conduct a review to determine medical accuracy in curricula identified by Community-Based Abstinence Education (CBAE) grant applicants for use in their abstinence education programs. As directed by federal staff in the Family and Youth Services Bureau, the curriculum reviewer will report in writing on medical information contained in each reviewed curriculum, specifically detailing whether the medical information is accurate or inaccurate. The review will begin with the curricula most widely used by CBAE grantees and grant applicants, and will extend to other commercially available curricula used by CBAE grantees and grant applicants. The curriculum reviewer will also be available to provide training and clarification to federal staff on issues of medical accuracy as they relate to reviewed abstinence education curricula.

Qualifications:

The curriculum reviewer must be a medical doctor or registered nurse with a background in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, as well as in the field of education. The curriculum reviewer should also have strong familiarity with the field of abstinence education and knowledge of the issues of medical accuracy pertaining to abstinence education curricula. The curriculum reviewer must demonstrate ability to communicate medical information in written and verbal form.
