I dont do any visualization exercise while lying down. Visualization is a

concentration exercise, not a letting go exercise. You should not be getting

so relaxed that you get sleepy. Sit in a chair, on the edge of the chair so

that you arent leaning back. Feet flat on the floor and eyes closed. Hands

comfortably in your lap. Focus on the words and the images they create. When

your mind wanders, gently bring yourself back to the words and the image. Do

not be judgemental about your mind wandering, it happens to everybody.

The work visualize is tricky for some people. If you have trouble

" visualizing " it, try " imagining " it. Learned that in a hypnosis class. Has

to do with what type of suggestibility you are.

I’m not doing the visualization while lying down. I’ve been hypnotized a

number of times in therapy, and I go down very deeply very quickly. I have

no trouble at all visualizing, since I did it often in therapy. I often

fell asleep during those sessions too, but the counselor didn’t see that as

a problem. It’s just frustrating for me at this point, when I want to make

the most of all of ’s visualizations.

Its easy to say and hard to do; but dont get frustrated.

Remember, small goals. Dont try to stay focused for the entire time, just a

little longer than last time.
