FEAT of Houston, a non-profit 501(3c) corporation, is very pleased to offer a

new ABA training DVD in Spanish. To request a copy, please visit the website

at: http://www.feathouston.org/ and click on contacts/ Singleton. We

hope we can get this excellent training tool into the hands of as many

interested individuals as possible, however, we encouarge those who can afford

to make a donation to consider donating about $20 to FEAT-Houston to cover some

of the DVD production costs.

It has long been one of FEAT-Houston's goals to promote low-cost, quality

training by properly certified behavior professionals (BCBAs) for parents,

educators, therapists, and other professionals who work with children with

behavior issues. To accomplish this, we have partnered with the local behavior

professional group, Tx-ABA SIG, to offer workshops throughout the year.

Through these workshops, FEAT-Houston and Tx-ABA SIG hope to promote the use of

sound behavior principles when developing programs and working with children

with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental disabilities, and other

behavior-related disabilities. We have been making these programs available in

English for some time. As Houston has a large Spanish speaking population, we

realized that there was a need to make this information available in Spanish.

This turned out to be much more difficult to do than we had anticipated due to

the lack of native Spanish speaking BCBAs-we were unable to locate one in the

US! Dr. F. Aparicio, BCBA, Professor, University of Guadalajara, Mexico,

was recruited to conduct our first ever Spanish ABC's of ABA. We decided it

would be important to video the workshop and make it available wherever it may

be needed. We hope that you find the information in this workshop useful and

applicable to help you, your child, your classroom, and your life.

This 2 DVD set (approximately 5 hours) was intended to help provide Spanish

speaking parents with a basic understanding of the principles of ABA in their

native language. It can be used is a few ways.

By Individual

Parents, teachers, aides, day care workers, speech pathologists, physical and

occupational therapists, nurses, social workers, psychologists and others who

work on a daily basis with children with autism or other children with behavior

issues etc. can use this privately to learn and review basic concepts about ABA

(applied behavior analysis).

By Groups

(IMPORTANT: FEAT-Houston and TX-ABA SIG only support the use of this DVD set

for training in a group setting provided that there is a certified behavior

professional, i.e. a BCABA or a BCBA, present who can demonstrate the

techniques, supervise the practice sessions, and answer basic questions. If you

need to find a professional, please check with the Certification Board registry

http://www.bacb.com/consum_frame.html to find a certified professional in your

area.)

In using the DVDs to teach, it may be more effective to have a small group

present for " mini-workshops " where a few of the concepts are covered in a couple

of hours followed by basic questions about the techniques rather than to attempt

the full workshop. Questions about specific children should be avoided since

good behaviorists must observe the child in the environment before consulting.

The DVD is broken down by slide so that certified behavior professionals can

easily select topics for this purpose.

ü educational settings: this would include ESCs, schools, head start

centers, day care centers for both teacher, aide, and/or parent trainings

ü clinical settings: this could include hospitals, diagnostic clinics,

community health centers, ABA clinic, and other specialized therapy clinics for

either the clinicians or the parents

ü parent support groups: could use a part of the presentation for a

meeting

Please feel free to contact me off-list if you have additional questions about

the DVD.
