Guest guest Posted September 5, 2006 Report Share Posted September 5, 2006 Teaching Verbal Behavior to Children with Autism: Hands-On Training for Tutors & Therapists Presented by Jenn Godwin, B.S., BCaBA and Tamara Kasper, SLP, BCaBA December 6-8, 2006 Comfort Inn - Outback Event Center Bloomington, Minnesota (free shuttle to and from the Mall of America,Minneapolis/St. Int'l Airport) hosted by The Lazarus Project hand in hand, creating a future of hope for children with autism Information Provided The workshop will cover, in detail, the following objectives: • Establishing instructional control with an unwilling learner. • Manipulating motivative operations (MO) during teaching to maintain attention & maximize learning. • Using the ABLLS (Assessment of Basic Language & Learning Skills) to develop instructional objectives. • Teaching the echoic repertoire. • Transitioning from sign language to vocal behavior. • Manipulating MOs to teach early to advanced manding skills (including spontaneous requesting skills.) • Teaching early to advanced receptive language, visual performance, motor imitation, tacting, & intraverbal skills. • Teaching reciprocal conversation skills in advanced learners. • Organizing teaching materials. • Recording data that guides teaching. However, psychologists, educators and tutors, Speech and Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, personal care assistants and students will also benefit from attending. ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies & the application of Skinner's Analysis of Verbal Behavior will be discussed. Attendees will spend most of their time viewing videotaped illustrations & practicing the methods of effective Verbal Behavior instruction. Only 26 participants will be admitted to the conference to ensure that all attendees receive individual attention & feedback regarding teaching methods. Participants must have attended an " Intro to Verbal Behavior " conference by Dr. Carbone, (or by Drs. Partington, Sundberg, or McGreevy), & have prior experience teaching children with autism. Each participant needs to bring a copy of the ABLLS Protocol and a completed ABLLS grid for a child you are teaching (available at www.autismshop.com or www.difflearn.com) Audio taping is permitted.
