I have recently translated an informed consent

form for a study with this drug and in Italian I

have chosen " interferone pegilato " , that I have

found in a lot of medical references

I have the feeling it might be referring to the first three month period

2000 (1° trimestre 2000). Maybe the text refers to the period in which the

drug was tested.

Hi Miriam, I can't help you with QW, but " pegylated interferons " are

" interferones pegilados " and

" 1Q2000 " is the first quarter (first trimester) of 2000.

Miriam, here's a good definition of interferón pegilado

Para evitar esto, se ha desarrollado una forma mejorada de interferón. Se le

llama interferón pegilado o peginterferón. PEG son las siglas de

polietilenglicol. Los polietilenglicoles son polímeros de distintas

longitudes y estructuras, que se pueden enganchar a la estructura de una

proteína (el interferón) para ayudarle a mantener una concentración estable

en la sangre. Las características de la proteína pegilada dependen del tipo

de PEG que se le adhiera, del número de enlaces que haya entre una y otra

estructura y del lugar donde se produzca la unión. Hay infinitas

combinaciones. Un PEG es como un largo hilo. Se enrolla a la proteína y la

disfraza, logrando que el sistema metabólico del paciente no la elimine.

Esto permite que el fármaco sea eficaz durante más tiempo y que el paciente

pueda reducir las dosis del producto.
