Guest guest
Hi all, We are still looking for an Autism Coordinator (administrative position) in Ann Arbor MI. I know you have seen me post this job earlier in the year, but now we have a new Special Education Director who is absolutely amazing. I have meet with him a couple of times already as the chair of our local parent advisory committee for special education, and he is really looking to build an excellent autism program to serve the entire spectrum of students here in Ann Arbor. His quote - " I want to have a world-class program for kids on the autism spectrum " , and he wants it to be behaviorally based. He insists he wants a BCBA with a broad range of experience for the coordinator position. So anyway, I am more hopeful than I have been in a long time, and he seems committed to obtaining resources and doing this right. I have to say I kept pinching myself as I was talking to him. So, if you were considering the position before, but were leery, think about it again. It will be a lot of hard work and not without risk, as anyone who works in a public school environment can tell you, but I also think it could be a great opportunity to build a quality ABA program in the school system here. We do already have an ABA classroom at the preschool level, and they just hired two really good elementary autism classroom teachers, both with ABA experience - but we REALLY need that experienced administrator/autism coordinator to support and guide these new teachers. Here is the job posting if you to take a look (salary is in the 80's): https://hr.aaps.k12.mi.us/search_jobs.asp?cat=2 We do need an experienced person, probably needs to have at least 10 years experience both in the public school environment and designing ABA programming, BCBA strongly preferred. Teaching certificate is nice but not absolutely essential. We also have another autism teacher elementary classroom job open, that posting is at: https://hr.aaps.k12.mi.us/search_jobs.asp?cat=1 and click on the " Communication Classroom Teacher " job opening. That job does require a teaching certificate in special education. We have had some turnover and everything is new, but I really think this guy wants to build a something special in our district. He is already using a consultant who has a ton of experience (25 years with May Center and NECC, and consulting in public school systems), but wants to build our internal structure to provide these services for students with autism. Very strongly committted to ABA too! His name is Larry Simpson, Administrator for Student Intevention and Support Services (our Special Ed dept) in Ann Arbor MI. His phone nuimber is 734-994-2318, and his email is simpson@.... He is very open and great to talk to, so even if you're just curious feel free to call him to find our more about the job. So if you're up for a challenge, we'd love to have you! Barb Byers Ann Arbor MI babmay11@...
