Introduction to ABA Principles and Verbal Behavior:

Managing Problem Behavior and Teaching Strategies for Children with

Autism

9:00am-3:00pm (Lunch on your own)

This workshop is designed for parents, teachers, in-home therapists

and other educational professionals who want to learn the behavioral

approach to teaching communication skills to children with autism and

other developmental disabilities. Attendees will receive a handout

and view several video demonstrations.

Participants in this workshop will learn:

• The major functions of behavior

• Procedures to reduce problem behavior

• How to establish instructional control with an unwilling

learner

• How to teach children to request/mand

• Effective teaching procedures

• How to take data and use data forms

The Presenters

Mindy , M.Ed., Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst,

Director of Community Outreach, graduated from Texas Christian

University in 1992 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education then

received a Master's Degree in Education from The University of Texas

in 1996. She is a certified Special Education teacher with 9 years of

experience teaching students with autism and other developmental

disabilities in both public and private schools. In 2001 she began

her training and mentorship in Applied Behavior Analysis and Verbal

Behavior as a lead teacher in a private ABA/VB school with Kelle

Wood. She helped Ms. Wood open the center in 2002 as a lead teacher.

Ms. now serves as the Director of Community Outreach at

CTAC. She conducts student evaluations, workshops, provides training

and consultations for families and school districts throughout Texas.

Darcy Hamre, M.Ed., Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst,

Assistant Director, graduated from the University of Oklahoma in

1996. In 1999, Mrs.Hamre began working with children with autism in

home-based ABA programs. During this time she enrolled at the

University of Texas and studied Communication Sciences and Disorders.

In the fall of 2000, Mrs. Hamre began teaching at a private ABA/VB

school for children with autism and began her mentorship with Kelle

Wood. In 2002, she helped Ms. Wood open the center and was a lead

teacher until 2004 when she was promoted to Assistant Director. Mrs.

Hamre received her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Special

Education in 2004 from The University of Texas. In her role as the

Assistant Director of CTAC, trains parents and other professionals,

conducts functional behavioral assessments and provides consultations

for families on a monthly basis.

$80.00 per person, register after February 7th $100.00. Registration

fee must be paid in advance to hold a spot. School districts need to

submit purchase orders before January 31st to avoid the late

registration fee (after the 31st registration must be paid with a

check at the late registration rate, purchase orders will not be

accepted for late registrations). See registration information at
