Guest guest
Madalyn, this may help. Even though its on the TS web site, it discusses who and what qualifies a child for a 504. They do not have to be failing. Micah qualifies because of TS, I'm not sure if OCD and ADHD do. It might help. I didn't read it all, but you might find what you're looking for. _http://www.tsa-usa.org/educ_advoc/ed_advocacy_q_and_a.htm#IEPand504PlanElig_ (http://www.tsa-usa.org/educ_advoc/ed_advocacy_q_and_a.htm#IEPand504PlanElig) In a message dated 12/3/2008 4:05:15 P.M. She's been diagnosed with both OCD and ADHD and is in public now and doing quite well in school; most of her problems occur at home when she has anxiety attacks over her homework. Her OCD also flares up big time when she's tired so some nights we'll decide it's better to go to bed than finish the work. We have heard from other parents that our local high school has some excellent support systems in place (accommodation, teaching specialists, readers to make exams oral rather than written). We were trying to lay the groundwork for a 504 in middle school, but the guidance counselor said she isn't doing poorly enough to warrant one. Has anybody encountered this problem? We know that the pressure in high school will crush her if were not prepared and we'd rather get the support in place before she fails.
